Role Description This is a full-time on-site role for a Weather & Forecasting Data Scientist / Meteorologist, based in Bengaluru. The role involves analyzing meteorological data, developing weather forecasting models for wind energy projects, and conducting data analytics to support project planning. The individual will collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to optimize wind resource assessments and contribute to sustainable energy goals through data-driven insights. We are seeking a highly skilled Forecasting Specialist to drive the next generation of our Indian Forecasting and Scheduling operations. The ideal candidate blends deep atmospheric physics with modern computational tools. You will be responsible for running high-resolution weather simulations and leveraging Python programming and AI/ML frameworks to improve forecast accuracy. Key Responsibilities Weather Modeling: Set up, configure, and execute the Weather Research and Forecasting (WRF) model to simulate high-resolution atmospheric and weather patterns across the Indian subcontinent. Data Processing: Utilize Python for data extraction, manipulation, and visualization of large meteorological datasets (e.g., GRIB, NetCDF files). AI/ML Integration: Spearhead the transition and integration of AI forecasting methodologies (e.g., ML-based weather foundation models, neural networks) with traditional dynamical models to enhance forecast precision. Scheduling Optimization: Translate high-fidelity weather insights into actionable scheduling and operational forecasts to support renewable energy in India. Model Validation: Conduct continuous evaluation, bias correction, and uncertainty quantification of model outputs against observational and real-time data Qualifications & Skills Education: Master's degree or Ph.D. in Meteorology, Atmospheric Sciences, Climatology, Physics, or a closely related field. Technical Experience: Minimum 0–2 years of operational weather forecasting experience, with proven hands-on capability in WRF software. Programming Skills: Strong proficiency in Python (specifically libraries like NumPy, Pandas, xarray, Matplotlib, and wrf-python). AI/ML Competency: Experience with AI weather forecasting models (e.g., ECMWF's AIFS, Google's NeuralGCM) and frameworks (TensorFlow, PyTorch) will be considered a significant advantage. Domain Knowledge: Deep understanding of Indian meteorology, the South Asian Monsoon, and synoptic weather patterns
