Job Title: Senior Backend Engineer (Python, Cloud & Kubernetes) – Regulated Environment Job Summary: We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Backend Engineer to design, develop, and operate secure, scalable backend systems in a regulated enterprise environment. This role requires strong expertise in Python-based API development, cloud-native technologies, and container orchestration, with a deep understanding of security, compliance, and structured delivery processes. The ideal candidate will bring experience working in highly regulated industries such as pharmaceuticals, healthcare, BFSI, or insurance, and will be comfortable operating within environments where stability, compliance, and documentation are as critical as delivery speed. Key Responsibilities: Design and develop secure, scalable backend services using Python frameworks such as Flask or FastAPI Build and maintain RESTful APIs with a strong focus on security (authentication, authorization, rate limiting, logging) Deploy and manage containerized applications using Kubernetes and Docker Implement and maintain CI/CD pipelines using tools such as GitHub Actions Work with AWS cloud services, ensuring secure configurations (IAM roles, access controls, networking) Implement OAuth2/OIDC-based authentication and SSO integrations Ensure system reliability through robust logging, monitoring, and observability practices Collaborate with cross-functional teams in a structured, process-driven environment Contribute to documentation, compliance, and audit readiness activities Support infrastructure as code practices using Terraform in controlled environments What to Emphasize (AstraZeneca Context): We prioritize candidates who demonstrate: Experience working in regulated environments (Pharma, Healthcare, BFSI, Insurance) Strong understanding of security, compliance, and enterprise data handling standards Exposure to large-scale enterprise systems rather than only startup environments Ability to work effectively in structured, process-driven organizations Appreciation for stability, compliance, and documentation alongside delivery speed Required Qualifications (Must-Have): Strong hands-on experience with Python (Flask or FastAPI) in production environments Proven experience designing secure APIs (authentication, rate limiting, logging) Hands-on experience with Kubernetes and containerization (Docker) Experience with CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions or similar tools) Strong knowledge of AWS cloud services, including IAM and secure access patterns Solid understanding of OAuth2/OIDC and SSO implementations Preferred Qualifications (Nice-to-Have): Experience in pharma, healthcare, or other regulated industries Exposure to audit, compliance, and governance processes Experience with Terraform or other Infrastructure-as-Code tools Strong experience with logging, monitoring, and observability tools in enterprise systems Key Competencies: Strong problem-solving and analytical skills Attention to detail with a focus on quality and compliance Ability to work in structured, documentation-heavy environments Effective communication and collaboration skills Security-first mindset in system design and development
