IN_Intern/Trainee
Job Description
About the Role
As a tax intern focused on mergers and acquisitions, you will spend your days supporting senior consultants in analysing the tax implications of corporate transactions. Your work will involve gathering financial data, drafting tax memos, and assisting in the preparation of client deliverables that help businesses navigate complex regulatory environments.
Key Responsibilities
- Collect and organise transaction data from client financial statements and public filings.
- Assist in building tax models to evaluate the impact of proposed M&A structures.
- Draft concise sections of client reports, ensuring compliance with professional standards.
- Participate in due‑diligence meetings, taking notes and summarising key findings.
- Research changes in direct tax and corporate law that affect cross‑border deals.
- Maintain accurate records of work performed and update project trackers.
- Collaborate with team members to refine client recommendations and presentation materials.
Skills & Qualifications
- CA IPCC both papers cleared or equivalent accounting qualification.
- Strong grasp of Indian Direct Tax and Corporate laws.
- Basic knowledge of valuation principles and M&A transaction structures.
- Proficiency in MS Office, especially Excel for data manipulation and PowerPoint for client decks.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
- Analytical mindset with attention to detail and a knack for number crunching.
- Ability to work independently and take ownership of assigned tasks.
What You’ll Learn
Working on live M&A tax engagements exposes you to the full lifecycle of a transaction—from initial due diligence to post‑deal integration. You’ll develop practical skills in tax modelling, regulatory research, and client communication that are highly transferable across finance, consulting, and corporate roles. The role also offers early exposure to cross‑border tax issues, giving you a competitive edge in a globalised market.
Resume Tip
Include a brief project or coursework section that showcases a tax or valuation exercise you completed in college. Quantify the outcome (e.g., “identified a ₹5 million tax saving opportunity through a simulated M&A structure”) to demonstrate tangible impact and analytical depth.
