Software Development Engineer - Core Systems

About the Role

As a Software Development Engineer - Core Systems at Plivo, you will build and ship complete production systems that power our products end to end, from a React frontend through Go and Python services to a PostgreSQL and Redis data layer, all running on AWS.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and ship complete features end to end, across the React frontend, Go and Python backend, and database.
• Build and maintain backend services and REST APIs in Rust, Golang and Python, using frameworks like FastAPI etc.
• Design and scale systems backed by PostgreSQL and Redis, balancing performance, reliability, and cost.
• Own what you ship in production, partnering with DevOps on deployment, monitoring, and performance tuning across AWS.
• Write clean, well-tested code and raise the engineering bar through reviews and solid practices.
• Work closely with product, design, and other engineers to take ideas from prototype to production.
• Debug across the whole stack, from the browser through the backend to the database, and fix problems at the root.

What You'll Need

• Strong fundamentals in data structures and system design.
• Full-stack ability, comfortable moving across frontend, backend, and databases, with the range to own a feature end to end.
• A track record of shipping complete systems to production, ideally things real users have relied on.
• Proficiency in at least one modern backend language (Go or Python), with a solid command of relational databases like PostgreSQL.
• Ability to think in terms of system, and build them at scale without compromising quality.
• Clear thinking, a bias for shipping, and the communication skills to work well across teams.
• Attention to detail and key understanding of a problem from a customer perspective.
• Ability to automate their work with AI agents and focus on innovation and problem solving.
