Cloud Engineer (Intern)
Job Description
About the Role
As a Cloud Engineer intern, you will work directly with senior engineers to set up and maintain cloud infrastructure for real customer deployments. Your day will involve configuring AWS, Azure, and GCP resources, monitoring production workloads, and troubleshooting issues that arise in a 24x7 environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Implement cloud architectures defined by the Solutions Architect across AWS, Azure, and GCP.
- Deploy and manage Linux and Windows servers using Chef, Ansible, or Puppet.
- Set up automated monitoring, alerting, and log aggregation for production systems.
- Participate in rotational shifts to respond to incidents and perform root‑cause analysis.
- Generate monthly operational reports and present findings to stakeholders.
- Assist in evaluating and adopting new tools or services that improve reliability.
- Document infrastructure changes and update runbooks for future reference.
Skills & Qualifications
- Strong foundation in Linux system administration and basic Windows administration.
- Hands‑on experience with at least one cloud platform (AWS, Azure, or GCP).
- Familiarity with configuration management tools such as Ansible, Chef, or Puppet.
- Basic scripting skills in Bash or Python to automate routine tasks.
- Understanding of REST APIs for integrating monitoring or deployment tools.
- Good verbal and written communication for incident reporting and customer updates.
- Relevant certifications (AWS Solutions Architect Associate, Azure Fundamentals, or GCP Associate Cloud Engineer) are a plus.
What You’ll Learn
Working on live customer environments will sharpen your ability to design resilient cloud solutions and troubleshoot complex multi‑tier applications. You’ll gain hands‑on exposure to the full incident lifecycle, from detection to post‑mortem, and learn how to translate technical findings into clear, actionable reports for non‑technical stakeholders.
Additionally, you’ll see how automation tools like Chef and Ansible reduce manual toil, and you’ll practice writing idempotent playbooks that can be reused across projects.
Resume Tip
Include a concise project section that lists a specific cloud deployment you built or maintained, noting the platform, size of the workload, and any automation you introduced. Quantify impact—e.g., “Reduced deployment time by 30% through Ansible playbooks.”
