Job Description

About the Role

As a CMA intern at HSBC, you’ll dive into day‑to‑day cost and management accounting tasks, working closely with finance teams to analyse budgets, forecast expenses and support decision‑making for a global bank.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in preparing monthly cost reports and variance analyses for business units.
  • Support budgeting and forecasting cycles, ensuring data accuracy and timely submission.
  • Build and maintain financial dashboards in Excel, incorporating key performance indicators.
  • Collaborate with cross‑functional stakeholders to gather cost drivers and validate assumptions.
  • Identify cost‑optimization opportunities and recommend process improvements.
  • Participate in ad‑hoc FP&A projects, such as scenario modelling or capital allocation studies.
  • Contribute to automation initiatives using Excel macros or Power Query to streamline reporting.

Skills & Qualifications

  • Currently pursuing CMA (Inter/Final) from the Institute of Cost Accountants of India.
  • Completed graduation with a focus on accounting or finance.
  • Strong grasp of accounting principles, cost management concepts and variance analysis.
  • Proficient in MS Excel (pivot tables, VLOOKUP, advanced formulas); experience with Power Query or VBA is a plus.
  • Basic understanding of banking operations and financial products.
  • Excellent analytical, problem‑solving and communication skills.
  • Willingness to complete HSBC’s mandatory Anti‑Money Laundering and Sanctions training.
