Why Cisco?
Job Description
About the Role
In this entry‑level engineering position you will dive into the software that keeps the internet running. Your daily work will involve writing, testing, and refining code that powers networking protocols, cloud services, or embedded systems, depending on the track you choose.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and implement small‑to‑medium sized modules in C/C++ or Java/Python, ensuring they meet performance and reliability targets.
- Use network simulation tools such as Cisco Packet Tracer or GNS3 to model traffic patterns and validate protocol behavior.
- Collaborate with senior engineers to review architecture diagrams, identify bottlenecks, and propose optimizations.
- Automate unit and integration tests with CI pipelines, leveraging GitHub Actions or Azure DevOps.
- Apply AI coding assistants (GitHub Copilot, Claude) to generate boilerplate code and spot potential bugs early.
- Document design decisions and maintain clear, up‑to‑date technical specifications.
- Participate in code‑review sessions, providing constructive feedback and learning best practices.
Skills & Qualifications
- Graduation in Computer Science, Electronics, or related field (Bachelor’s or Master’s).
- Strong foundation in data structures, algorithms, and computer architecture.
- Proficiency in at least one low‑level language (C/C++) or high‑level language (Java, Python, Go, React).
- Experience with networking fundamentals: TCP/IP, routing, switching, and tools like Wireshark.
- Basic knowledge of cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP) and RESTful API design.
- Familiarity with databases (SQL or NoSQL) and simple query writing.
- Comfortable using version control (Git) and collaboration platforms (GitHub).
- Interest in AI‑assisted development and exposure to frameworks such as LangChain or RAG is a plus.
What You’ll Learn
Working on real‑world networking protocols exposes you to the full stack of internet infrastructure, from packet parsing to routing tables. You’ll gain hands‑on experience with cloud deployment pipelines, secure coding practices, and performance tuning. The role also encourages experimentation with generative AI tools, giving you a head‑start on the next wave of software automation.
Resume Tip
Highlight a personal project where you implemented a simple routing protocol or built a microservice that interacts with a cloud database. Include the specific tools (e.g., GNS3, Docker, AWS Lambda) and metrics (latency, throughput) to demonstrate tangible impact.
