Java Full Stack Developer

About the Role

As a Java Full Stack Developer at Barclays, you will be responsible for designing, developing, and improving software solutions that provide business, platform, and technology capabilities for our customers and colleagues.

You will work closely with cross-functional teams to define software requirements, devise solution strategies, and ensure seamless integration and alignment with business objectives.

Our ideal candidate will have a strong background in Java, Spring ecosystem, and front-end development using React and/or Angular, with excellent JavaScript skills.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and improve software solutions using industry-aligned programming languages, frameworks, and tools.
• Ensure that code is scalable, maintainable, and optimized for performance.
• Cross-functional collaboration with product managers, designers, and other engineers to define software requirements and devise solution strategies.
• Implementation of effective unit testing practices to ensure proper code design, readability, and reliability.
• Collaboration with peers, participate in code reviews, and promote a culture of code quality and knowledge sharing.
• Stay informed of industry technology trends and innovations and actively contribute to the organization's technology communities.
• Adherence to secure coding practices to mitigate vulnerabilities and protect sensitive data.

Skills & Qualifications

• Strong hands-on experience with Java 17/21 and the Spring ecosystem (Spring Boot, Spring MVC, Spring Security).
• Advanced front-end development experience using React and/or Angular with excellent JavaScript skills.
• Proven ability to design and implement robust RESTful APIs/services.
• Strong experience with Maven/Gradle and modern software development lifecycle practices.
• Strong testing expertise across multiple layers: Unit testing (JUnit / Mockito), Mutation testing (PiTest / Stryker), Component/integration testing (Karate / WireMock / React Testing Library).
• Strong database experience with SQL Server / Oracle, including writing efficient queries and understanding data models.
• Experience with observability, logging, and monitoring tools (Elastic / Kibana) for troubleshooting and production support.
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field.
• Good understanding of cloud architecture and deployment models.
• Strong experience working in Agile/Scrum environments, contributing to delivery and engineering practices.
• Hands-on experience with Docker, Kubernetes (K8s), OpenShift for containerization and orchestration.
• Experience with AI-driven development and automation tools, such as GitHub Copilot / Microsoft Copilot, GitLab Duo, Claude or equivalent AI-assisted development tools.
