Applied Scientist, Amazon Core Search

About the Role

As an Applied Scientist at Amazon Railings, you will be part of a multi-year journey to improve the shopping experience for customers globally. Your primary responsibility will be to lead efforts in query understanding, semantic matching, and ranking using NLP, ML, and DL technology.

You will develop high precision, high recall, and low latency solutions for search that work for all languages supported by Amazon and will be used in all Amazon locales worldwide.

Your solutions should be scalable, working successfully in production, and you will work with leaders to develop a strategic vision and long-term plans to improve search globally.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop high precision, high recall, and low latency solutions for search using NLP, ML, and DL technology.
• Lead efforts in query understanding, semantic matching, and ranking.
• Work on improving search on Amazon using NLP, ML, and DL technology.
• Develop scalable science and engineering solutions that work successfully in production.
• Collaborate with leaders to develop a strategic vision and long-term plans to improve search globally.
• Work with the team to expand into new areas and grow the collaborative group of engineers and applied scientists.

Skills & Qualifications

• Programming experience in Java, C++, Python, or related languages.
• Experience with SQL and an RDBMS (e.g., Oracle).
• Master's degree in a relevant field.
• Experience implementing algorithms using both toolkits and self-developed code.
• Publications at top-tier peer-reviewed conferences or journals.
• Strong understanding of NLP, ML, and DL technology.
• Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to work in a collaborative environment.
